King to Share First-Hand Address on His Health Battle in Television Programme
The Monarch has filmed a personal message regarding his experience with cancer, scheduled for transmission as part of this year's annual cancer awareness drive, run by Cancer Research UK and a television broadcaster.
Buckingham Palace said the King would reflect on his "recovery journey" as a person living with the disease, in a video message on Friday at the evening slot.
The recording, taped inside a royal residence a fortnight ago, will emphasise the importance of preventative health checks to increase the likelihood more people diagnose the illness at an initial point.
This constitutes a uncommon insight on the medical condition of the King, who has been undergoing regular treatment since his condition was announced in early last year. Analysts suggest improbable the King will disclose his specific form of cancer.
Awareness Central Purpose
The Stand Up To Cancer event each year generates donations for clinical trials and therapies and urges people to get check-ups to increase the odds of an prompt identification.
The King's relative openness about his health challenge, and living with cancer, has been aimed to increase understanding and to encourage more people to get screened - and this will be advanced with this unique direct participation.
So far the King's key philosophy to his cancer has been to continue his schedule, preserving a hectic timetable alongside his frequent sessions of therapy, and he seems not to have sought to be overshadowed by his diagnosis.
Recently has seen the 77-year-old Monarch, undertaking several international tours, such as visits to Italy and Canada, and hosting the biggest number of official guests to the UK for a generation, featuring the German president in recent days.
Charity Special Show
This Friday's awareness programme on the network, presented by presenters such as several TV personalities, will appeal to people not to be scared of getting preventative tests.
All three have been had experience with cancer - one host revealed last month she had undergone surgery for breast cancer, while another presenter was diagnosed with a thyroid condition over a decade ago. Comedian Hills has previously discussed his late father, who had one form of cancer and then later blood cancer.
The show will reach out to the estimated millions of people in the UK who Cancer Research UK state are not current with national health programmes, with an website to let people determine if they are qualified for screenings for breast, bowel and cervical cancer.
In an effort to clarify screenings and show the benefit of prompt detection there will be a real-time transmission from cancer clinics at Addenbrooke's and Royal Papworth hospitals in Cambridge.
"The goal is to remove the anxiety from preventative tests and show all people that they are not alone in this," commented one of the hosts.
Available Screening Programmes
Right now in the UK, there are several key NHS cancer screening programmes - for bowel, breast and cervical cancer - accessible for specific demographics.
A emerging scheme for lung health is also being gradually implemented for individuals at potential risk of developing the condition, primarily aimed at people aged 55-74 years old, who are smokers or have smoked in the past.
Men may enquire about prostate cancer checks, but there is lacking a standardised service currently available.
Ongoing Efforts
The charity project, which has collected £113m since 2012, is funding 73 clinical trials encompassing many patients.
The Monarch, in a message for guests at a event for cancer charities in earlier this year, had referred to understanding the "intimidating and at times alarming situation" for those diagnosed and their families.
But he said his first-hand encounter of coping with cancer had shown him that "the darkest moments of sickness can be alleviated by the greatest compassion," as he thanked those who cared for those receiving treatment.
Royal representatives has not made public what kind of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has been given. The King's cancer was detected after he had undergone a medical treatment.
