The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
